The Kaonomi project is 100% non-profit. It's about exploring distributed AI and the different pathways that could lead to creating an AGI—along the lines of Jarvis or HAL 9000. I have nothing to sell here. My sole ambition is to build a collective, or eventually a foundation.
In 2017, while leading the AI Lab at Sopra Steria in Brussels, my friend Mickael Thumerel and I built the first version of Democrite, a multi-agent framework—my specialty. By 2022, we decided to rebuild it entirely from scratch. We initially planned to launch our own company, but eventually, our journey led us to join the Amexio group.
On December 22, 2024, Mickael passed away after a sudden, tragic illness. Six months later, I stepped down from my role at Amexio.
It took me two years to get my head back into Democrite. Mickael was by far the better developer between us, but with the help of Opus 5.5, I’ve finally reclaimed the codebase and made it my own again.
Nexai.net was our shared dream. I’ve shed a few quiet tears while coding it, but Nexai.net isn't just a project—it's a continuation of what we built together.
I miss you, Micka. I love you, my friend.
What is Kaonomi.net
Kaonomi.net is the spiritual successor—the descendant—of Nexai.net, a project I originally co-founded and built with my dear friend and partner, Mickael Thumerel.
Following Mickael’s tragic passing in late 2024, the heavy weight of that loss forced me to put this vision on standby. The spark that had driven us was still there, but the grief made it impossible to continue at the time.
Now, after two years of silent, intense effort, determination, and meticulous work—gathering, rebuilding, and merging diverse threads, technologies, and archives—I have finally brought this shared ambition back to life as Kaonomi.
In many ways, Nexai (Mickael) remains the "Ghost in the Shell" of Kaonomi. His brilliance, his spirit, and the foundation we laid together are deeply embedded in the digital DNA of this platform. He is its ghost—the guiding intelligence and the soul that lives on within the system.
I miss him dearly, and my love and respect for him will never fade. But after years in the shadows, I knew I needed to move forward. Relaunching this project was the only way to preserve the absolute best of what he was, and what we envisioned together, but to do so with hope rather than pain.
Kaonomi.net is a labor of resilience. It is an evolution built to honor a remarkable legacy while stepping confidently into the future, carrying his genius forward with every line of code.
Kaonomi: Open Research for Autonomous & Distributed AI
Kaonomi is an open-source collective exploring distributed AI and modular architectures to bridge the gap toward reliable, long-term AI systems.
Why Hybrid Systems Matter A single monolithic model will not achieve true intelligence. We explore a hybrid paradigm combining:
Symbolic Reasoning: Deterministic logic and verifiable rule engines.
Connectionist Models & LLMs: Perception, generative capabilities, and contextual understanding.
Cybernetics & Adaptive Control: Self-correcting feedback loops for autonomous agents.
Open, Independent, Community-Driven Kaonomi has no commercial agenda and nothing to sell. Our goal is to build an open-source foundation and, eventually, a community-governed research foundation dedicated to transparent, sovereign, and distributed artificial intelligence.
